The way people shop over the holidays has certainly changed in the last few decades. For me, I would much rather sit in the comfort of my home and browse the internet and order online, instead of fighting the crowds in the big stores.

But with the convenience of shopping from home and having your packages delivered right to your front door, comes the risk of having your items stolen if you are not home when the delivery comes.

I was recently reading a story on Central Maine Dot Com about three homeowners in Gardiner and one home in Randolph reporting to police that packages delivered during the day were stolen, according to complaints filed with the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office.

Have the package delivered to your workplace. This is a sure fire way to make sure that your package isn't sitting out on your steps for hours, just tempting local thieves.

Have your package delivered to a close friend or neighbor who you know will be home during the day.

There are a few other ways to to deter theft.
