As we get ready to start our 14th annual Tanksgiving food drive there are some alarming facts about hunger in Maine. Ten years ago 9 percent of the state’s population, about 53,000, didn’t have enough food to put on their table. That number has jumped to 15 percent today, or 132,000 Mainer’s.

All across the state, food banks are in constant need of food for their shelves but with efforts like Tanksgiving and donations from the community things are getting a little better, not much though. Maine was ranked 2nd worst in the country for ‘very low food security, the worst condition involving hunger but because of the efforts throughout the state, Maine is now at 6th, still not very good. With the continuing effort of food drives like the B98.5 and the Maine Army National GuardTanksgiving Food Drive’, and donations from the community to local food banks, we could improve that ranking even more.

Please donate this week during our food drive and help end hunger in Maine.
