3,000+ Mainers Have to Repay a DHHS Mistake

Maine DHHS says they over paid some welfare recipients and now those who got it have to pay it back.

According to the Bangor Daily News, DHHS says it is a federal requirement that they collect over-payments even if it was their error. Over last year and the first 4 months of this year more than 3,000 Mainers were given too much funding specifically food stamp funding.

That add up to almost $3 million dollars.

DHHS says they will be forgiving 40 % of the over-payments and will work closely with clients to come up with payment plans.
