It was created in 1876 by Dr. Augustin Thompson in Lowell, Massachusetts. It was orginially marketed as a panacea that would cure paralysis, nervousness and insomnia. The town of Lisbon Falls, in Central Maine, celebrates everything Moxie with the annual Moxie Festival.
