It was in 1976 when then-chemistry teacher Roger Bennatti at George Stevens Academy in Blue Hill, Maine started a four decade long unscientific study on Twinkies.

Urban Ledged says a Twinkie can last forever, they will never go bad, so in 1976 Bennatti placed a freshly unwrapped Twinkie on a chalkboard so he and students could see how long it would take to decompose. The question still remains.

The Twinkie has outlasted Bennatti’s teaching career and the company the Twinkie originally came from. It sits in a glass case these days a looks more ashen but still looks like a Twinkie with a few crumbs that have fallen off.

The question is, is it edible? And another question, would anyone want to take a bite to find out?

The former science teacher said that, when he first set the Twinkie on top of the chalkboard, he never could have predicted the fame it would achieve.
