Drapeau’s Costumes of Lisbon, Maine is billed as the oldest and largest costume rental store in Maine. By the end of the year it will close if owner Kris Scribner Cornish can’t find a buyer.

According to bangordailynews.com Cornish says if she can’t find a buyer she sell of the 4,000 costumes individually.

Corish says there are two reasons she is closing: Competition from internet retailers and she is simply burned out.

The business has been open for 62 years and Cornish and seamstress Diane Meservier has been with the store for 40 of those years. Many of the costumes at Drapeau’s were hand sewn and most are machine washable.

They plan on being open through Halloween this year but are expected to close by December 30th.
