The entire Bee staff would like to salute Navy Petty Officer Derrick King of Waterville, Maine. Derrick is a 2010 Waterville High School graduate and is serving aboard the USS George H.W. Bush.

Petty Officer 3rd Class Derrick King is an aviation ordnanceman aboard the aircraft carrier. The George H.W Bush is nearly 1,100 feet long and 252 feet wide and weighs more than 100,000 tons.

Two nuclear reactors can push the ship through the water at more than 35 MPH.

As a sailor with numerous responsibilities, King said 'he is learning about himself as a leader, sailor and a person'. King added, 'I'm continuing my family Navy service legacy that spans at least 4 generations of sailors.'
