A Closer Look: Question Six ‘Maine Transportation Bond’ [POLL]

We have been focusing on the five citizen initiative questions and the one bond question on Maine's November ballot. Today, we are up to Question 6, 'The Maine Transportation Bond' Question. Here's how the question appears on the ballot.

Do you favor a $100,000,000 bond issue for construction, reconstruction and rehabilitation of highways and bridges and for facilities, equipment and property acquisition related to ports, harbors, marine transportation, freight and passenger railroads, aviation, transit and bicycle and pedestrian trails, to be used to match an estimated $137,000,000 in federal and other funds?

Those in favor of the transportation bond question argue that Maine roads and bridges need basic repairs and that the state does spend enough to properly maintain them.

Those against the transportation bond question argue that maybe an increase on the gas tax would be a more fair way to raise the money for road and bridge repairs. Others think that we just spend too much money.
