Once again, the bull riding event at the Boots N Bulls rodeo will be benefiting .a good cause.

That's because Colt Bernhardt, a former deputy with the Franklin County Sheriff's Department, who now works in executive protection with Pinkerton Security, will be riding to raise money for breast cancer.

This is the second year that Bernhardt has ridden a bull at Boots N Bulls for charity. And while the bull quickly bucked Bernhardt to the dirt during his ride last year, he was still a winner, as his efforts raised over $1,500 for the Special Olympics from the Painted Pony Rodeo Company and the audience at Boots N Bulls.

It wasn't Bernhardt's first rodeo (pardon the obvious pun), but it was his first in a long time. He said he rode bulls about nine years ago before going into law enforcement. "(I) just competed here and there," he said.

Since he had ridden with the Painted Pony company before, it was a natural fit to tie in a fundraiser for Special Olympics when the company came to his backyard. "I thought it would be a good opportunity to raise money for Special Olympics," he said.

He said even though the ride didn't last long, he enjoyed it. "It was fun, it's always fun," he said.
