ABC’s ‘Happy Endings’ Moving to USA?
‘Happy Endings‘ fans, your favorite show may soon live up to its namesake. After a largely disastrous move to Friday nights, it seems there may be hope on the horizon after all for ABC’s ‘Happy Endings,’ which has struggled all season in its shuffling various schedules. New reports suggest that USA may attempt to ease its way into the original half-hour comedy market using ‘Happy Endings’ as an entry point, should ABC opt not to renew the fan-favorite series. Find out if fans will have future ‘Happy Endings’ inside!
The cancellation of ‘Happy Endings’ former Tuesday partner ‘Don’t Trust the B in Apartment 23‘ might have put the writing on the wall for some, but ‘Happy Endings’ may not be down and out after all. Following the show’s recent move to Fridays, Deadline hears that Sony TV has reached out to other networks to potentially pick up the series if ABC declines, USA having expressed a definite interest.
Not only does Sony TV have a history of saving its series, as was the case with ‘Damages’ and ‘Rules of Engagement,’ but USA has also been searching for a foothold into the original comedy market. Should USA decide to pick up ‘Happy Endings,’ it may end up pairing the series with its syndication of ‘Modern Family,’ which had previously given ‘Happy Endings’ a sizable boost on ABC.
Also worth noting is the precedent of ABC’s ‘Cougar Town,’ which completed a successful move to TBS and recently earned a fifth season pick-up. Not only would a fourth season of ‘Happy Endings’ potentially guarantee syndication rights, but USA has developed and ordered a number of original comedies this season, yet hasn’t taken any of them to series.
What say you? Could ‘Happy Endings’ find its own happy ending on USA? Do you think the series deserves to find new life on another network?
