Hallowell Police discovered  an active meth lab in the basement of a home at 11 Spring St. last night (Oct. 5).

According to Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland, the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency Meth Lab team arrived at the single family home this morning (Oct. 6) to gather evidence.

McCausland said agents reported finding a substantial amount of meth and the ingredients to make the drug in the basement.  Arrested last night by MDEA for trafficking in methamphetamine is Christopher Kessell, 36, who lives at the house.   Kessell was taken to the Kennebec County Jail in Augusta, McCausland said.

MDEA today were assisted at the scene by the Hallowell Fire Department, Maine DEP and Hallowell Police, McCausland said

According to McCausland, this is the 104th meth response by the drug agency this year .  Last year there was 56 for the entire year.
