Alexander Hamilton on the $10 bill is safe for now. There has been a proposal to replace Hamilton on the bill with a woman. Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew had said he would announce a decision by the end of this year possibly naming the woman who will replace Alexander Hamilton's portrait on the $10 bill.

Some of the women suggested to replace Hamilton are abolitionist Harriet Tubman, First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, Civil Rights Pioneer Rosa Parks and Juliette Gordon Low the founder of the Girl Scouts.

The Treasury statement did not specify how long the announcement could be delayed, only that it would come 'in the New Year.' If Hamilton is replaced on the $10 bill he won’t be ‘completely’ replaced but how that will happen is not known.

This all comes about because the $10 bill is going to be completely redesigned by 2020. The idea of a woman on the bill is also tied in with the fact that 2020 will be the 100th anniversary of the passing of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote.
