The top 6 on American Idol went a little bit country and a little bit rock n roll. So what did they sing and how did they do?

Round One was the rock n roll round:

Jena: 'Barracuda' by Heart. This was my sisters favorite group when we were growing up, so I have heard this song many times blaring from her bedroom. The song fits Jena's voice perfectly and she did a great job. A-

Sam: 'It's Time' by Imagine Dragons. I am not familiar with the song, but Sam does a good job. In fact this could be his best performance on the show. His voice was solid and he seemed to be focused and more confident. B+

C.J.: 'American Woman' by the Guess Who. It was a really bad start and then it just got to a level of mediocrity. The song didn't fit C.J.'s voice or image. It wasn't very good. D+

Alex: 'Animal' by Neon Trees. His voice and energy just can't keep a level that the song deserved and needed. He wasn't horrible and I give him credit for trying something outside the normal for his voice. C

Caleb: 'Sting Me' by the Black Crowes. This was awesome! Caleb has a great rock n roll voice and this seemed like a live concert performance and not a contestant on a reality show. A+

Jessica: 'Somebody To Love' by Jefferson Airplane. The song fit her voice well. Vocally she was strong, but she's still a little stiff on the stage. B

Round Two 'A Little Bit Country'

Sam: 'You're Still The One' by Shania Twain. It was bland, he seemed nervous, no dynamics in his vocals. C

Caleb: 'Undo It' by Carrie Underwood. Caleb tries to rock out to Carrie Underwood and it just really seemed a little forced. It was pretty good but I see and hear a trend of the country round not being as good as the rock n roll round. B

Alex: 'Always On My Mind' It was sleepy, almost borderline 'Tiny Tim' like. I really did not like it. Harry Connick Jr. and Jennifer Lopez loved it, Keith Urban didn't. D

Jena: 'So Small' by Carrie Underwood. The arrangement was weird, she was decent vocally but her vocals didn't seem to fit the song. It just didn't work for me. C+

C.J.: 'Whatever She's Got' by the Zac Brown Band. As bad as C.J. was in round one, this was even worse. His voice was never in pitch and the song went nowhere. Worst performance of the night. F

Jessica: 'Jolene' by Dolly Parton. The arrangement added a darker, rock edge to the song. Vocally she was pretty good but it was just a fair performance. C+
