The Augusta Police have instituted a new program to help assist police and other emergency responders to help locate and communicate "people that are prone to wander due to autism, Alzheimer’s, Dementia or other mental/medical conditions."

Called the "Wanderer's Program," the police are asking for photographs, the best way to communicate with the person, places where they might hide and emergency contact information.

In a Facebook post announcing the program, police said all information would be kept secure and only be used in an emergency situation.

To participate in the program, go here and fill in the online form.

Anyone looking to to register someone for the program may also pick up a paper copy of this registration form at the police department located at 33 Union St.  If you have any questions about the form or the program in general,  contact  Lt. J. Chris Read at the Augusta Police Department at (207) 626-2370 ext. 3409 or email chris.read@augustamaine.gov.
