The Augusta Police are looking for a suspect in a home invasion last night (Aug. 2).

According to police, the armed male suspect falsely claimed to be a police officer when he tried to force his way into a Northern Avenue apartment.

According to a release from Major Jared Mills, the suspect was wearing a black mask and a dark hoodie and carrying a firearm when he tried to enter the apartment. Mills said that the suspect fled the scene on foot after a struggle.

Mills added that Augusta police, with assistance from the Maine State Police and a K-9 unit tried to track the man, but were unable to find him.

The investigation remains under investigation by Augusta police detectives. "So far, while we have not identified the suspect, the investigation indicates the motive of the suspect was to obtain money and possibly drugs specific to the location of the incident and there is no indication that this was a random act," Mills said.

Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to call Detective Sergeant Cote at 626-2370 ext 3423.
