With wind chill temperatures expected to be 25 below zero and even colder, a reminder that the Augusta Warming Center is open for the winter season.

It is not an overnight shelter, but it can be a big help in this dangerously cold weather. The Augusta Warming Center is open each day between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. all winter long and is located on Frost Street.

The Warming Center Manager Tony Pushard, told WGME-TV that more people have come in for help this past Tuesday than any other day so far.

The Center does close at 4 p.m. but volunteers say they do what they can in emergencies.

The Maine Emergency Management Agency is warning people to be ready for the brutal cold tonight and Thursday. They advise to limit your time outdoors, wear layers, watch out for hypothermia and frost bite.
