Augusta Woman Arrested For Prostitution. Should Prostitution Be Legal? [POLL]
This is a very sensitive subject for many people. It's been a familiar topic in Maine ever since Zumba instructor Alexis Wright from Kennebunk made national news with her double life a few years ago. According to a story in the Kennebec Journal, Bobbi-Jo Rollins, 39, was arrested and charged with prostitution for the third time yesterday afternoon.
According to the published report, police have had a number of complaints about Rollins in the past, and have spoken to her about her clothing and her behavior. She was arrested after police saw her get into a truck on Western Avenue. The KJ story also said that Ralph Ferguson, 57, of Windsor, allegedly hired Rollins and he was summonsed on a charge of engaging in prostitution.
Prostitution is illegal in the United States, except for select counties in Nevada. It is considered a misdemeanor, which is a crime of low seriousness. Many will argue the fact that it is a woman's (or man's) body and she/he has the right to do with it as they choose. Perhaps it's a source of income and as long as they report their earnings, where's the harm?
Others feel it is a very dangerous business, putting the person in harm's way. There is also the concern of spreading diseases and the list just goes on. What do you think?
