FIRST THOUGHTS: Most memorable Boston/New England sports moments from this past year (and Todd's annual bowl commentary)
Todd: I don’t intend to give the majority of the local sporting world short shrift (Bruins playoff run was certainly memorable, even if it didn’t end in another Stanley Cup victory), but there’s little doubt that the story of the year was the Red Sox worst-to-first finish in winning their third World Series title over the last ten years. According to Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland, the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and Augusta Police coordinated the arrests of two Augusta men and eight persons from out of state, on heroin and methamphetamine charges Wednesday . The arrests took place at the Penley Street house of 32-year-old Peter Gleason, following a police raid there late in the morning.
Southern Illinois basketball coach Barry Hinson's team lost Wednesday night to Murray State, dropping their record to 2-8 on the season. But that's not what's noteworthy. It was Hinson's postgame press conference that has everyone talking.

The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency arrested eight people from Hancock County, according to Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland, concluding a two-year investigation in the sale of Oxycodone in the county on Dec. 10. Agents seized 1,100 Oxycodone pills and $35,000 in cash.
