In Cuyuna, Minnesota the 35th annual Wood Tick race will take place this Saturday, June 14, an event that draws hundreds of ‘tick jockey’s’ to race Wood Ticks. The race is put on by the town’s volunteer fire department that gets the proceeds from the parasite race.

A campus shooting at the small Christian college of Seattle Pacific University could have been much worse if it wasn’t for 22 year old student Jon Meis. The gunman, wielding a shot gun, walked into Otto Miller Hall where Meis was working as a building monitor, and opened fire killing one student and injuring two others. It was quick thinking by Meis that kept things from getting worse.

There has been a study showing that, historically, hurricanes that have female names have killed more people than hurricanes with male names. Looking at death rates from 1950 to 2012, of the 47 most damaging hurricanes, female named storms have averaged 45 deaths while male named storms have averaged 23.
