The first week of bowl games is in the books and, while we all know these games are just appetizers for the big games to come, the BCS games will be hard-pressed to match some of the excitement we’ve already seen. Three of the four games this week were decided in the fourth quarter and featured a lot of stellar individual efforts.
Here are all the highlights from the first games of the 2012 bowl season.
What says "happy holidays" more than ignoring your family so you can bask in the warm glow of a football game between two teams you don't know anything about and haven't seen play since, well, last bowl season? Here all the highlights from this week's slate of college football bowl games.
The first week of the bowl season is a great time for strange-sounding games named after local companies you’ve probably never heard of. For college football junkies, though, it’s a great time to see some exciting players who may not be household names, but may soon be. For example, the New Mexico Bowl on Saturday afternoon features the nation’s top two leading rushers, both of whom will be back next year.
Here are all the highlights from the first week of the bowl schedule:
While all eyes in the college football world will be on Saturday night’s presentation of the Heisman Trophy, Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o holds a big lead in postseason hardware after taking home three trophies—including two national player of the year awards—during last night's college football awards show. He has now won six major awards since the end of the regular season.
While many coaches are gearing up for bowl season, it's that time of year when many other underperforming college college coaches get their walking papers. This year, some big names--including the winningest coach in Cal history and a guy who won a national title less than two years ago--headline the list of coaches who have been fired.
In a move that shakes up two power conferences, University of Arkansas officials announced Tuesday evening that Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema had accepted the Razorbacks' head coaching position. Terms of the deal were not announced, but the contract is reportedly a six-year deal worth $3.2 million per year.
History could be in the making this weekend, with a defensive player and a freshman highlight among this year’s finalists for the Heisman Trophy. Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel, Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o and Kansas State quarterback Collin Klein were announced as candidates for football’s most prestigious trophy, which will be awarded Saturday night.
