Banana Peel Smoking Excess In One Maine Jail

When you think of a banana you might think of a banana split, banana bread, but smoking a banana peel? Administrators at the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn have ordered the kitchen staff to peel bananas before they're served to inmates, and the jail has also stopped serving oranges all together. Why?Prisoners have been drying and smoking the peels.

Lt Jeff Chute told the Lewiston Sun Journal, that the peel smoking has been a problem for about six months. He adds that there is an urban legend that smoking dried peels and rinds give the user a high.
