After spotting the upstart Elon team the first touchdown, the UMaine Black Bears put the clamps on the Phoenix and won another CAA road game 24-17.

The early touchdown came on a pick-six off a Drew Belcher pass.

Belcher responded from the turnover and would up with a solid game, throwing 2 TD passes (18-for-27, 191 yards) and rushed for another 92 yards.

Running back Nigel Beckford rushed for 104 yards. He ran for one TD and caught a TD pass.

Meanwhile, Maine's defense choked the Elon offense all day. The Phoenix rushed for a total of 24 yards and passed for just 153 yards.

Elon, a school in North Carolina, is in its first year in the CAA and is 0-7 (1-10 overall).

The Black Bears improve to 4-3 CAA and 5-5 overall.

The season finale is next Saturday against New Hampshire.  The UNH Wildcats will likely be the nation's #1 team when they come to Alfond Stadium.
