With the winter weather soon approaching, that means slick roads are in our futures.  This usually brings 2 kinds of drivers.  Those who think they are 'pros' and don't feel it is necessary to use caution.  They are invincible.  They also have zero tolerance for the second kind of driver...the cautious driver.  The driver who, whether nervous or not, just wants to get from point A to point B in one piece...doesn't matter how long it takes them.

If you are the first driver that I described, I have one request for you.  Before you pass judgment on the other driver, before you say 'C'mon, this isn't the first time Maine has seen winter'...please keep in mind:

  • My son, along with McCoy's son, is completing his driver's ed programs this month.  Both will have their permits.  They were students in full classes, so that means even more new drivers out there on the road.  I would hate for my son to feel rushed while driving in this winter weather because of an intimidating driver on the road who doesn't  have patience for his inexperience.
  • Amen to your confidence.  But not everyone is as confident.
  • 4-wheel drive doesn't make you any safer than the next driver.  Ice is ice and you can slide too
  • Your life matters.  You have loved ones who want you to get from point A to point B safely.

Please give yourself plenty of time for travel when roads are bad.  Everyone will understand if you are late.
