Summer is coming fast, and while kids are looking forward to getting out of school, now their parents are stuck finding things for them to do.

The city of Augusta has a variety of summer camps to serve kids with all sorts of interests. The Augusta Recreation Department has a great many camps for kids, here are some examples.

    Augusta Rec Soccer Camp

    This camp runs from July 20-24 and is $55 for residents and $65 for non-residents. It will be held at the CAYSA Fields on Cony Road and is a co-ed program where kids will work on individual techniques as well as small group instruction. Register at the Buker Community Center, 22 Armory St., Augusta.

    Robotics Camp

    The Robotics Summer Camp at UMA. Kids will learn about robotics and engineering and how they help people solve problems.

    The camp runs in 3 sessions, June 29-July 3 (Beginner Group-ages 9-12), July 6-10 (Beginner and Intermediate-ages 9-13) and July 13-17 (Advanced-ages 11-15). The time for all 3 sessions is 8:45 am-3:30 pm.

    The cost is $230 per child for Session 1 and $290 per child for sessions 2&3.

    The camp is limited to 16 campers per session.     Build Your Own Computer Camp

    Running July 20-24 at the Buker Community Center. Geared at kids ages 12-16, the cost is $600.

    YMCA Camp of Maine

    Why not sign up at the YMCA Camp of Maine’s sleep over camp. The YMCA
    camp of Maine is located on beautiful Cobbosseecontee Lake in East Winthrop,
    just six miles from Augusta. The camp is open to boys and girls ages 8-15.
    You can sign up for one or two week sessions. Bring a friend and sign up together!
    Camper elected program offerings include basketball, soccer, tennis, swimming,
    sailing, kayaking, water skiing & tubing, arts & crafts, pottery, low ropes, archery,
    basketball, soccer outdoor camping on their island and more!

    If you like rock climbing, whitewater rafting, schooner sailing or horseback riding
    You can sign up for their “Teen Adventure Camp” one week trips throughout Maine for campers ages 12 –  They are easy to find: Take Route 202 West from Augusta, to Route
    135 South in East Winthrop. The YMCA camp is just 1.5 miles on Route 135 South.

    The Winslow Parks & Recreation Summer Fun Camp

    The Winslow Parks & Recreation Summer Fun Camp  is a 7 week program for children in grades K-going into 9th. The program is open to Winslow residents and to non-residents .It runs Monday-Friday 8:00-12:00 and is based out of the Winslow Elementary School, which is located on Benton Avenue. There are limited bus stops for Winslow residents.

    They provide a safe and fun environment for your child/children during the summer. They do a variety of activities throughout the week and Wednesdays are field trip days. Field trips are open to children in the 3rd grade and up unless otherwise specified. If your child does not go on the trip, SFC is still in session!  They offer an in house Science Camp 2 days a week which is run by a local teacher at no extra cost to you. They have theme weeks which end with weekly contests and prizes for all! SFC also participates in the Summer feeding program located right at the school. Your child will receive a free breakfast and lunch Monday-Friday.
