Up until now there are basically two ways of saying goodbye to a loved one that has passed away, cremation or burial. Now there is a third way, the Infinity Burial Suit.

It’s a biodegradable body suit for those interested in natural cemeteries and becoming part of nature after you are gone. It is nicknamed the ‘Mushroom Death Suit’ because it’s an organic cotton suit with crocheted netting containing mushroom spores.

The mushroom spores quickly break down organic matter (you) and is excellent for the environment. The mushrooms quickly break down the body and dispel the toxins it contains. Once the mushrooms feed on your body it leaves behind pollution free compost.

The Infinity Burial Suit is from MIT researcher Jae Rhim Lee who decided to research natural methods of burial after learning more about the modern funeral industry. She became interested in how funeral practices harm the environment by using formaldehyde and make-up to make your loved one look better during burial.

Tests are still being conducted but Lee says she thinks her suit will be used ‘above ground’ but covered. She is conducting tests on meat right now but a few people have already volunteered their body to be consumed by mushrooms upon their death.
