Tens of thousands of fans voted, and Blake wins! Blake Shelton was named country music’s top vocalist, besting Carrie Underwood in the final round of the month-long, bracket style contest.

The “Came Here to Forget” singer was the last person standing in ToC’s search for country music’s best vocalist. The final put the winners of the male and female brackets against each other and gave their fans a chance to vote. With nearly 60 percent of the vote, Shelton wins!

To get to the finals, Shelton fans needed to step up to defeat Vince Gill, Chris Young and Trace Adkins. It wasn’t an easy ride for his faithful, but they earned the recognition he didn’t get at the 2016 ACM Awards on April 3. Underwood’s trip to the finals included wins over Ashley Monroe, Martina McBride and Reba McEntire.

Sixteen singers were chosen from the most active stars of the year to compete in this bracket-style contest. Each round lasted one week, with the star with the most votes moving on. Taste of Country’s contest is the only yearly Top Vocalist award decided entirely by fans, and as expected, the results look quite different from those announced at the 2016 ACM Awards.

Miranda Lambert and Chris Stapleton were named the top vocalists of their respective genre at the ACMs. Jason Aldean was the overall Entertainer of the Year, while Little Big Town and Florida Georgia Line won Vocal Group and Vocal Duo of the Year, respectively.
