As we wait for the latest storm of the century to bear down on Maine, I am left to contemplate the fact that this huge storm is named after A DISNEY FISH?

Seriously, people at the Weather Channel have gone a bit too far with this one, naming winter storms as if they were hurricanes. They're not. Dr. Joel Myers of AccuWeather has spoken out against the practice.

“In unilaterally deciding to name winter storms, The Weather Channel has confused media spin with science and public safety. We have explored this issue for 20 years and have found that this is not good science and will mislead the public. Winter storms are very different from hurricanes. - Dr. Joel N. Myers, AccuWeather

And there is even a Facebook page dedicated to the subject.

For me, I really think that naming winter storms is silly, but if you're going to do it, at least give them scary names like Maximus, Thor or Ivan the Destroyer! Nemo is far to cute to be a storm name, I just picture a little cloud heading towards Maine saying "just keep snowing, just keep snowing..."

Hey, Weather Channel, what's next? A blizzard named Mickey?????
