How to Avoid Scammers When Looking to Donate in the Aftermath of the Boston Bombings

Many of us are looking for ways to donate to the victims of Monday's Boston Marathon bombings. Unfortunately, there are already scammers looking to take your money. Watchdog groups are warning of potential online schemes looking to profit from the tragedy.

According to CNN, Ken Berger, president and chief executive officer of Charity Navigator says, "Don't just give on impulse because somebody says they are raising money for victims. Don't assume it's true." He continues, "The safest approach is known quantities rather than something that just popped up."

The 'Better Business Bureau' has also released a Top 10 list of ways to avoid scam charities.

The Kraft family, owners of the New England Patriots announced they will match $100,000 in donations to support victims. Donate at www.patriots.com/donate with "Boston Marathon" in the message field. Also, you can donate to the Vince Wilfork Foundation by texting VINCE to 50555 to donate $10. All proceeds this month will benefit the victims.
