UPDATE: 3:30PM The lockdown at Corrina Elemtary School today (Aug. 29) was lifted after about an hour-and-a-half and a suspect has been taken into protective custody.

According to a story from centralmaine.com, state police said they had taken a man into protective custody and there was no threat to the safety of the school, and the lockdown was lifted by 2PM.

The story said the man, who was in a residence about 300 yards from the school, had threatened to use a knife to cause harm to himself and the lockdown was ordered strictly as a precaution, adding that the man, whose name was not released, did not make any threats to cause harm to anyone besides himself.

According to WGME, the Maine State Police have requested a 'soft lockdown' at the Corinna Elementary School. Students are being kept in the school and nobody is being allowed into the building.

A state police dispatcher said that the lockdown request was made for 'a health and safety check.'
