Cam called out both the iHeartRadio Music Awards and country radio in a series of sharp tweets. After discovering that only one female country artist — Lauren Alaina — is nominated in this year's awards ceremony, she had some strong words for the format as a whole.

“The majority of country listeners are female (actually true) but apparently we prefer listening male singers so we can 'dream about them being [our] boyfriend' (actually said to me),” Cam wrote on Twitter on Tuesday (Feb. 20).

The "Diane" singer was responding to a radio station's poll which asked who users think should win Country Artist of the Year at the iHeart Awards, which are on March 11. The problem for Cam, however, is that all of the nominees are male — Blake Shelton, Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Sam Hunt and Thomas Rhett are up for the prize.

"Sure hope #iHeartAwards picks the hottest one, cause that’s all my lady-brain can understand!" she continued.

Cam continued her tirade in responding to followers, explaining how "only a dumb person buys music solely based on their sex drive. That’s not the majority of listeners and isn’t driving sales. I’m saying female consumers are being underestimated / incorrectly blamed for the lack of female artists."

She further told followers: "I'd say it's educating the gatekeepers about the false biases they have. Not all women listen to music the same way (duh there are billions of us). So they should find new predictors (not just gender) for what women will buy/stream and hire more women to help with these insights."

2018 iHeartRadio Music Awards nominee list includes three country categories (Country Song of the Year, Country Artist of the Year and Best New Country Artist), with 10 male nominees and one female (Alaina), who is up for Best New Country Artist.
