The 2015 Can Am Crown Sled Dog Races come to Fort Kent February 28 to March 3. This year, in an effort to bring more racers to town, they will introduce a skijor event.

Skijoring is a skier connected to one or more dogs. The dogs pull the skier along using commands as if they were pulling a sled. The skijor races will take place Sunday March 1 with a 5k, 10k and 15k. There has only been one racer to complete the 250 mile Can Am Crown on skis, Barry Dana from Solon did it in 1996.

There will be three sled dog races starting Saturday morning February 28 and 8 a.m. The Can Am Crown 30, 60 and 250 mile races and so far 18 teams have signed up for the 250 mile race. The 250 mile mushers are on the trail for two or more nights.

The Fort Kent Outdoor Club has been grooming the trails for the dog sled races and they say the trails are in excellent shape and are fast.
