Can beer really be good for a cold? Yes!  According to a study by Sapporo University in Japan, a chemical compound found in beer hops can actually fight off the virus that causes pneumonia. The virus hits children, not yet of drinking age, the hardest, while adults experience less serious symptoms.  The chemical compound ‘humulone’ is found in hops and protects against the respiratory virus but there isn’t much ‘humulone' in beer. To have any virus-fighting benefits you’d have to drink 30 cans of beer to see any change. The discovery does come with a plus though; scientists hope to find a way to use their discovery to make a non-alcoholic medicine for children.
