Carrie Underwood Not Hurt if People Don’t Like That She Supports Marriage Equality

In 2012, Carrie Underwood made a bold move as a country artist by publicly declaring her stance on gay marriage. Now, the CMA Awards co-host is defending her opinion in Redbook’s December issue, once again talking about her support of equality.

When Underwood first gave her two cents on gay marriage, she was faced with tons of backlash, especially from country fans, and ever since then, she’s been defending her stance.

The ‘Good Girl’ songstress makes it very clear in her Redbook cover issue that she’s not worried what people may think of her opinions, since she was just being honest.

“Someone asked me a question and I tried to give an honest answer,” she explains. “If someone won’t like me because of that, then maybe they were looking for a reason not to like me.”

Underwood, also a vocal advocate for animal rights, is married to Nashville Predator Mike Fisher and believes anyone should be able to marry if they so chose, just like her and Fisher.

She admits the two are happily married, and part of that is due to their strong trust.

“No one ever has  a bad word to say about him,” Underwood tells the magazine. “He’s one of the good ones. I don’t need to check up on him.”

She continues, If he goes out to a bar with his friends, [a tabloid] is going to report about it. Same goes for me. Trust is what it is. Either you trust someone or you don’t. And I’ve never trusted anyone more than I trust [Mike].”
