I just happened to be there as Jon Leach, the Executive Director of the Children’s Center in Augusta, stopped in to give ACAR a thank-you for supporting the recent Chili-Chowder Challenge. Then today I found wonderful card in my mailbox.
March 25, 2013 Now that the NCAA Basketball Tournament is in full swing, men are taking the opportunity to get a vasectomy at the same time. At the Cleveland clinic they have noticed a sharp rise in the amount of vasectomies they are performing now that the tournament is underway. According to Dr. Steven Jones there has be a 50% increase with him doing one every 15 minutes.
March 22, 2013 Good things happening with keeping kiddos in school. The Maine Department of Education released a report recently showed that the four-year graduation rate for Maine schools rose for a third year in a row . The average is now 85.34 %. An increase is good, but there is always more work to be done.

March 13, 2013 Bullying has been in the news a lot recently. It mostly seems to focus on kids. And, well it should, growing up can be hard enough. Add in bullying into the mix and it is so much harder. Until recently, I thought it was not an adult problem, except maybe as a parent as a child faced these issues. BUT, I am wrong. It can happen in the lives of adults. Let me tell you, it is super annoying and disheartening.
March 12, 2013 Augusta native and philanthropist Elsie Viles passed away this weekend. She was 98. I never met Mrs. Viles, but I was thinking about her this weekend while I was at the Viles Arboretum in Augusta. I did not know at that time of her passing.
March 8, 2013 The first ever Farmington Fire and Ice Festival is set for Saturday, March 9 in downtown Farmington. The event will feature fun, family activities, including snow tubing between Front and Main streets, an ice-carving demonstration by Wicked Good Ice, dog sled rides, a road race and snowshoe races. The day will wrap up with a fireworks show at 6:20 at Prescott Field.
