Warm Weather Delays The Fall Foliage Season In Maine

The warm weather this month has kept Maine's foliage mostly green so far, according to the state's foliage report.

Gale Ross, the fall foliage coordinator for Maine, says that "Sunny days, followed by cool, but not freezing temperatures help move the progression of color along,”  "We have not experienced the cooler evening temperatures in all seven zones."

Mike the Headless Chicken Lives for 18 Months

In September 1945, Life Magazine ran a story about ‘Mike the Headless Chicken', also known as ‘Miracle Mike”. Lloyd Olson, the owner of the rooster, was sent out by his wife, Clara, to get a chicken for the evening meal.  He headed to the barnyard to behead a chicken wanting to leave plenty of neck because his Mother in Law enjoyed that part of the chicken.

The annual weekend event kicks off with a parade of schooners sailing into one of the country’s most scenic harbors followed by a crew talent show and fireworks.
