I Finished! I Finished! Best Time Ever!

I DID IT!! I DID IT!! I can't believe it went by so fast!

The Rise 'N Shine 5K Road Race was really over before it began. As we waited at the Walgreens on the opposite side of the circle from Kennebec Savings Bank, we were all cold. Some were stretching, some looping the rotary to prepare. Me, I was just trying to stay warm. It was 38 degrees. Then the airhorn went off!

Wood Splitting for Winter

I was with talking to an elderly gentleman from Texas the other day who was on his first visit to Maine. The question he asked me was kind of surprising until I realized it’s always warm in Texas. He wanted to know what the big piles of wood are people have in their yards. He was referring to firewood stacked and piled as we get ready for winter. Naturally, they don’t have to burn wood to stay warm in Texas, so it’s understandable why he didn’t know. I have a big stack of wood on the side of my house too as I burn wood for heat in the winter.

Coolest Dad Ever!

Sometimes when you read stories, you're like "Why didn't I think of that?" This is one such story and...it can be done!

Every child has their favorite toy. Anderson's is Beanie, the stuffed cat we made at The Fun Park in Benton over a year ago. Not an afternoon goes by when he doesn't run up the stairs when we get home from school and he finds her. He brings her downstairs and we do homework with Beanie, we cook with Beanie. Beanie is even a character on our Wii gaming system. I don't think I could use Beanie for this project but anything else would be cool!

THIS child's favorite toy is a train named Stanley. And you'll NEVER guess where Stanley goes!

Sharon’s Son Anderson Has a Big Idea!

It's not unusual for kids to have ideas. They come up with some doozies, don't they? At a recent trip to a campground Anderson had an idea and he won't let go of it because he brought them home. And, as a mom, you try to indulge your child. But THIS idea had merit...and make him money in the future!

Anderson wants to grow

LL Bean Has a Giant Boot?

I must have been living under a rock but I literally had no idea that when I went to Freeport I would see something that is an icon in the state of Maine.

Oh, sure, I knew LL Bean made the best boots in the world but I didn't know they made the BIGGEST!

Training for the 5K

RISE 'N SHINE! It's the 19th annual 5K Road Race on Friday, September 28th. And when they say "Rise 'N Shine" they mean it! Registration for the 5K starts at 6:00AM and the race begins at sunrise at 6:35. We'll be starting at Kennebec Savings Bank in Augusta and running on the Kennebec Rail Trail. Not only is it "Rise 'N Shine", it's rain or shine as well! It all benefits the Kennebec Valley YMCA.

I've done 5K's before but I haven't run one since last summer.  You need to train for this kind of thing. You just can't get up one day and run. If you do, you'll be sorry the next day and could seriously injure yourself.

Debbie Myers and Friends Benefit for Maine Homeless Veterans this Sunday

There has been a challenge issued to top officials around the country from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to end homelessness among veterans within five years. Brian Stiller, Togus Medical Center Director thinks it can be accomplished, but not by the VA alone. In Maine, on any given night, there are between 600 to 1000 homeless vets and the actual number may be higher since homeless vets in rural areas never make it to homeless shelters so they never get counted.  These are the people that served our country and were willing, if necessary, to put their life on the line for our freedom.

Sharon’s Apple Pie!

With all of the apples we picked on Sunday at the Apple Farm in Fairfield, I need to get some good use out of them! I have always been envious of people who make the apple pies at the fairs that win the blue ribbons. I don't believe I'll ever be creative enough to make such a beautiful looking pie but at least mine tastes good!
