Maybe it's just me but the allure of sailing has always tugged at my heart stings, something about the ocean and a self powered vessel strengthens character, adds to ones confidence and even leadership skills.
The art and experience of sailing is something I wish I would have acquired much earlier in life...
I don't know what it is....the older I get I get more and more enamored with birds. I love hearing them, seeing them, feeding them, Im fascinated by their migratory path and impressed with those that brave the Maine winters here...yes, I'm looking at you black capped chickadee...
Multiple fox attacks have taken place in Rockland over the past 48 hours. According to a report by the Village Soup, a woman was grilling on her deck when a fox appeared out of nowhere and attached her dog, a small rat terrier, the woman did her best to pry her dog from the mouth of the fox and was bitten in the process...
Due to the relatively mild winter we had, this spring is just over flowing with ticks. I've already had several encounters myself, as well as on the dogs, and that's even extensive lawn and yard treatments.
Of course the main concern is contracting a tick borne illness, which there are several and none of them are anything you want to struggle with if you can avoid it...
It's that time of year again when Maine turtles are on the move....albeit slow but on a mission to locate food, a mate, and start a nest.

Fish ladders are nothing new. They’ve been around for centuries. And they all serve the same purpose - to get migrating fish over it and around a barrier. These fish are on their way to spawn, ensuring their survival.
Around Maine there are several examples of these architectural marvels...
Did you know that the State of Maine has the highest population of black bears in the contiguous U.S. and this is the time of year when they are very active mostly due to that rumbly in the tumbly. They will be active all summer into to fall but right now in the early spring the natural foods bears love to eat are scarce...
One of the thing I really like about this time of year is you can get outside and enjoy some pretty robust exercise before it gets too hot, and not have to deal with many insects, now if someone would pass that info on to the ticks we would truly be golden...

One of the rights of passage here in Maine when it comes to spring is the opening of the Maine Wildlife Park in Gray. According to WGME-TV, the park is slated to open for the season in two weeks on April 15th.
If you've been to the Maine Wildlife Park before you know that they do a wonderful job of showcasing over 30 different species of wildlife that are native to the State of Maine...
Did you know that only Maine and Massachusetts ban hunting on Sundays. It all goes back to those blue laws that many hold onto tightly, and others feel are old and outdated and need to be changed.
Of course there has been several attempts to repeal the "no hunting on Sundays" laws to no avail...
