Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton is planning to swing through Maine next month. The former secretary of state and first lady will hold a grassroots organizing meeting in Portland on Friday, Sept. 18. She's also expected to attend a fundraising event while here. (AP)

Jarrica Gomes, 24, of Skowhegan was killed earlier this week when the SUV she was driving veered off the road during a heavy rain storm, and hit a tree. First responders reported that there was hydroplaning. Tuesday's crash is under investigation. centralmaine.com

Democratic House Speaker Mark Eves is expanding his federal lawsuit and accusing Gov. Paul LePage of violating Maine law when he pressured Good Will-Hinckley into firing him. Eves says LePage violated his First Amendment rights when he threatened to withhold $500,000 from the school unless they removed him as president. LePage calls it a "political lawsuit" without legal merit. (AP)

Robert Burton, who turned himself in after spending two months hiding in woods, yesterday was ordered held without bail on charges he broke into his ex-girlfriend's home and shot her to death while her children slept. An Aug. 17 bail hearing was scheduled. (AP)

Motorcyclist Chad Wynne of Fairfield suffered "possible life-threatening injuries" in a collision with a car in Palmyra yesterday. He was not wearing a helmet when he was struck at the intersection of Route 2 and Ell Hill Road. The intersection has been the scene of "numerous crashes" over the years. (AP)

A head-on crash yesterday morning at the intersection of Route 126 and Hallowell Road in Litchfield led to three people being taken to area hospitals. None of the injuries are believed to be life threatening. The accident is under investigation. centralmaine.com

46-year-old Jason Brawn of Westbrook has died after he was trapped on a sandbar during an incoming tide off Hills Beach in Biddeford. Brawn and another man were caught on a sandbar during an incoming tide Saturday. (AP)

Robert French, 43, of Norridgewock is being charged with assaulting his grandfather. He allegedly punched his 74-year-old grandfather Tuesday and slammed his head into the floor several times. He's being charged with two counts of domestic violence assault, disorderly conduct and refusal to submit to arrest or detention. centralmaine.com

The Lewiston School Committee next Monday night will be asked to approve a new school to be built at the Franklin Pasture Sports Complex near Lewiston High School.

Portsmouth Naval Shipyard has completed an overhaul of the attack submarine USS Alexandria two weeks early and $9 million under budget. Capt. William Greene, the shipyard commander, said the project team "showed a commitment to safely delivering first-time quality work." (AP)
