Officials say a Maine couple found dead in a parked SUV in Manchester on Christmas morning had been shot, and authorities are now investigating the case as a double homicide. Detectives are trying to retrace the events of Christmas Eve to figure out what happened to 35-year-old Eric Williams and 26-year-old Bonnie Royer, who lived together in Augusta. (AP)

State Police say a 44-year-old Vermont man drove to Maine Christmas night and stabbed three members of the same family. Alton Britch was charged with aggravated assault after the attack. Police say they don't know why he assaulted his cousin, her husband, daughter and grandson. (AP)

Police say a driver may have been blinded by the sun when he crashed a car into a horse-drawn carriage, injuring seven people on a Christmas Day hayride in Waterville. The crash happened Friday when 73-year-old Richard Libby, of Clinton, hit the rear end of a carriage carrying a driver and 14 passengers. One woman is in critical condition. (AP)

Police say a woman fell to her death in Waterville Saturday afternoon. The body was found outside a home on Drummond Avenue that was still partially under construction. 33-year-old Stacey MacDonald of Clinton had been a guest at the home. An autopsy Sunday showed she suffered serious internal and external injuries. The fall appears to be accidental, but the medical examiner's office will conduct additional tests. (AP)

A Bethel, Maine 8-year-old battling leukemia got her Christmas wish to meet New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. Hailey Steward received a video invitation from the QB on Christmas Day, asking her to visit him Saturday at Patriot Place in Foxborough. Hailey and her parents were given a tour of Patriot Place where they met Brady, took pictures and got hugs. (AP)

AD Electric of Sabattus is being penalized for violations revealed in the May fire in Monmouth. The company has been fined more than $15,000 for safety and training violations discovered during the investigation sparked by the massive warehouse blaze. (centralmaine.com)
