(WGME/KJ) -- An armed man who created an hours-long standoff in the police department parking lot is now in custody. According to WGME the man was believed to be suicidal.  He arrived at the police station around 6 p.m. Monday and sat in a pickup truck outside for several hours.  The situation ended overnight, and the man is now in police custody. Waterville Police Chief Joseph Massey says the public was never in danger.  Several streets around the police department were shut down during this incident, but they are now back open.

(WCSH) -- Police are asking for the public's help in identifying a suspect in an early Monday morning robbery of the Stone Street Big Apple. Police said a white male entered the Big Apple at approximately 1:33 a.m. Monday morning. The man is described as thin build wearing a dark jacket, ski hat, sunglasses and a scarf covering his face. The man allegedly handed a threatening message to the clerk and fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money, according to police. The Augusta Police Department is asking anyone with information regarding the robbery to contact Detective Sgt. Jason Cote at (207) 626-2370 ext. 3423.

(WGME) -- A “stealth destroyer,” built in Bath, is headed out to sea for the first time. The future USS Zumwalt left Bath Iron Works on Monday. People watched and waved as the 600-foot long ship carefully navigated the Kennebec River. The 15,000 ton destroyer will be undergoing builder trials in the north Atlantic. It's expected to get some tweaks before being delivered to the Navy next year.

(WGME) --A woman was hit and killed by a pickup truck while crossing the road in Lewiston. It happened Monday morning on Lisbon Street. According to WGME police said 53-year-old Christine Beaulieu of Lewiston was walking on Lisbon Street around 6:30 a.m., near the Mobile gas station, when she was hit by a vehicle. Police are piecing everything together to try and figure out what exactly happened. Investigators say the driver wasn't injured. They're also said Beaulieu wasn't in a crosswalk at the time of the crash. Police said it's too early to say whether or not charges could be filed.

(WGME) -- Police say they've caught the driver who hit and killed a disabled veteran's service dog. Berwick police say 23-year-old Jesse Gosselin, of Dover, New Hampshire, panicked after he hit the dog. According to WGME Sophia, a 7-year-old German Shepard service dog, died. Police say Gosselin was driving on a suspended license and took off because he knew he'd be in trouble for hitting the dog. A local American Legion post is raising money to get the vet a new service dog.

(AP) — A contentious mayoral campaign is coming to an end in Lewiston, which will host a runoff election for its top elected position. Incumbent Robert Macdonald faces Ben Chin in the runoff on Tuesday. Chin got the most votes in the city's Nov. 3 election, but did not receive the needed 50 percent of the votes in the multi-candidate race. The runoff has divided the City Council as well as voters. Four of the councilors say they support Chin, while the other three held a news conference to criticize the group's endorsement.

(AP) — Maine's attorney general says there is an increase in the number of state residents calling to report a phone scam in which someone pretends to be a debt collector with the Internal Revenue Service. Attorney General Janet Mills says the scam and similar cons are "the most common complaint we receive." She reminds residents they should not give credit card information to these callers, and they should hang up the phone immediately. Mills says her officer received 61 contacts from Maine residents on Dec. 3 about the scam. Mills says the scammers can rig caller identification systems to make it appear the call is coming from Washington, D.C., when it is not.

(AP) — The head of the FBI's Los Angeles office says investigators have concluded that the two shooters who carried out last week's massacre in San Bernardino, California, had been radicalized "for quite some time." The husband and wife had also taken target practice at gun ranges. Authorities say the two assault rifles used in the attack had been legally purchased by an old friend of Syed Farook. It's still unclear how the couple got the weapons.

(AP) — Donald Trump's call for a "total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States" is being called "unhinged," un-American, and "unconstitutional." And those views are from some of his GOP rivals and other Republicans. Religious groups condemning the proposal include the Southern Baptist Convention.
