These are some of the stories central Maine is talking about today.

A dog was rescued and resuscitated in Belfast by firefighters saving a dog's life after pulling him from a burned camper. Sterling is a 3-year-old lab mix and he’s a very lucky dog.  According to WGME Belfast firefighter and EMT Fred Ehman says crews quickly put out the fire at a camper Tuesday and then found Sterling inside. Without hesitation, Ehman and the others strapped an oxygen mask onto Sterling and got to work. Slowly, Sterling started to move again. Sterling was rushed to the Searsport Veterinary Hospital with burns on his nose, plastic melted on his fur and suffering from smoke inhalation. He's still recovering, but is expected to go home on Wednesday. (WGME)

Democrats are attacking Gov. Paul LePage for delaying nominations to boards and commissions. Senate Democratic leader Justin Alfond said the governor needs to do his job and quit playing games after it was reported that LePage won't make any nominations until January. The Senate normally convenes in the fall to approve gubernatorial appointments. LePage originally withdrew dozens of nominations toward the end of the last legislative session after blasting lawmakers for failing to act on his tax reform proposals. LePage told MPBN said that a "cooldown period" is in effect because there's "too much hatred between the Legislature and the executive branch." He says he'll consider submitting nominations for judicial openings in January. (AP)

Maine has been experiencing a stretch of warm, sunny weather but that hasn't stopped a Maine ski resort from testing its snow guns. Sunday River completed a full test of its systems at daybreak Tuesday, firing up 40 snow guns as it prepares for the season that typically starts around Halloween. The warm weather has delayed the change of leaves on trees but it was cold enough overnight for the resort to test its guns. The resort has not yet set an opening date. (AP)

Stewart was sentenced for theft of public money. He also was ordered to pay to nearly $54,000 in restitution to the Veterans Administration. Prosecutors say the 48-year-old Stewart received more than $54,000 in benefits to which he was not entitled between August 2011 and January of this year. Prosecutors say Stewart was entitled to receive about $1,800 monthly in disability benefits. Stewart pleaded guilty in April (AP)

The Hallowell House of Pizza remains closed nearly two weeks after someone broke in and damaged the building before stealing money. A Water Street restaurant remains closed more than 10 days after it was reported to have been vandalized during an overnight break-in. Police believe the burglar was angry and the damage indicates that the business was targeted rather than the victim of a random attack. Any one with information is asked to called the Hallowell Police at 623-3131. (centralmaine.com)
