Police In Hallowell have charged a man after he allegedly left his dog in a his hot car on Water Street for about 30 minutes Monday afternoon.

According to CentralMaine.com, Police chief Eric Nason said the car was parked in the sun for a half hour with the windows cracked at 2 inches. A passer by had alerted the department and officers investigated. The dog “was awake and panting,” Nason said. “The panting sets off some red flags. Certainly that would be something that is not natural behavior from an animal."

25 year old Ryker Wells of Augusta was issued a civil summons for animal cruelty.
