Chelsea Man Arrested And Charged With Stealing Tools To Support Heroin Habit

A Chelsea man was arrested today (March 31) by Maine State Police troopers on charges of stealing tools to help support his heroin habit.

In a post on the Maine State Police Facebook page, troopers said Michael Freeman, 28, of Chelsea, was charged with two counts each of burglary and theft. Troopers said Freeman has been charged with breaking into a local barn on Togus Road on March 15 and stealing tools, a boat motor and chain saws and many of the items ended up at a pawn shop.

According to police, some of the tools were recovered at a pawn shop in Auburn and the boat motor was discovered in the woods near Freeman's home in Chelsea on March 31. According to troopers, Freeman pawned the stolen tools for $275 and the total value of the stolen items was approximately $3,000.

Freeman told troopers he needed to money to support his heroin habit. According to police, this is not the first time Freeman has faced drug-related charges. Police said that in 2012, Freeman was charged with robbing Oxycodone from the Rite Aid pharmacy in Fryeburg and was currently on probation after serving jail time.
