The People’s Park in the Chinese province of Henan is supposed to be a zoo with exotic animals like lions, snakes, white foxes and pandas, but the zoo has recently tried passing off domestic animals as exotic ones.
Things came to light when zoo patrons noticed a lion was barking like a dog. Zoo officials substituted a Tibetan mastiff (dog) in the lion’s den. Other substitutions were made too: a dog in the wolf’s pen, rodents in the snake’s pen and a white fox in the leopard’s pen. Patrons of the zoo were quite put off by the whole situation feeling cheated. This is not the only time in China this has happened. Recently zoo officials were caught painting dogs black and white and trying to pass them off as pandas.
