College Football Starts August 17
Abilene Christian and Georgia State will kick off the college football season on Wednesday, August 17. The following day 14 games are on tap and Friday there will 7. Saturday, August 30 will start the major part of the schedule.
On that Saturday some big games for week one: Idaho will be at Florida, Southern Miss takes on Mississippi State, Fresno State and USC and last years National Champion Florida State travels to Oklahoma State.
The USA Today poll has Florida State starting out the season as the number one team in college football followed by Alabama, Oklahoma, Oregon and Auburn. Of the top 5 Florida State received the most #1 votes with 56, Alabama didn’t receive any, Oklahoma got 3 and Oregon received 1. The only other teams to pick up a vote to be at #1 were Ohio State with 1 (they’re ranked #6) and South Carolina with 1 (they’re ranked #9).
This year is the beginning of the playoff system in college football, the top 4 teams will play for the chance to be the National Champs.
