It’s a day for Cystic Fibrosis in Augusta this Sunday. It’s called '65 Roses, Lungs for Shawn,' and will be held at the O’Connor Value Center on Riverside Drive. It’s a car, truck and motorcycle show with vehicles from the 1900’s to 2011 with trophies awarded in many categories and this year’s event will feature prizes for furthest traveled for cars, trucks and motorcycles, and 'Best of Show.' Trophies are awarded and it’s fun for everyone..

'The Lungs for Shawn Foundation' is for 33 year old Shawn Murphy who was born with Cystic Fibrosis. Doctors thought Shawn wouldn’t live to be a teenager. Now 33 and a graduate of USM, he has defied the odds. The money raised from the '65 Roses' event will help defray medical costs as he has to travel to Boston once a month for three days for treatment, and to Portland once a month for three days for treatment. Shawn needs a double lung transplant and is waiting, in the meantime medical expenses are high.

The event will feature 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies in cars, truck and motorcycles and all entrees will receive a commemorative dash plaque for their vehicle. There will be Big Rigs and a ‘build in progress’ category so you can tow-in your work in progress.  It’s not too late to enter, call Ron at 446-8666 for information about entering the event or for more details.

The '65 Roses, Lungs for Shawn' event is a family affair with kids under 12 getting in free and adult spectators only $3, to enter a vehicle in the show is only $10. The kids will receive a free raffle ticket when they arrive for a chance to win remote control cars, bicycles, video games and more. The Darling's 'Ice Cream Truck for a Cause' will be there offering free ice cream for donations with all the money going to 65 Roses. Mark your calendar for this Sunday, September 23rd from 8am to 2pm with a rain date set for Sunday, September 30th.
