Dale Earnhardt Jr. will be looking for a new pit crew chief in 2014 as current crew chief Steve Letarte will be leaving after the 2014 season to go into the broadcast booth. Dale Jr. caught wind of the rumor last October at Charlotte and said it came as a huge shock.

Jr. talked to Latarte about the rumor and learned more details on why he wanted to quit. Letarte is going to become a broadcaster with NBC Sports NASCAR beginning in 2015 so he can spend more time with his family.

Dale Jr. said once he sat down with Letarte and heard his side of why he was quitting he understood. With two children at home, ages 8 & 10, he wanted to get off the road and spend more time at home. Letarte will be Dale Jr’s. pit crew chief for the 2014 season then after that it’s off to the broadcast booth along side Jeff Burton and play-by-play announcer Rick Allen.
