David Fincher in Talks to Direct the Steve Jobs Biopic

In 2010, director David Fincher, screenwriter Aaron Sorkin and producer Scott Rudin struck box office and Oscar gold with ‘The Social Network,’ which told the story of Mark Zuckerberg. Now, that same team is looking to officially reunite and tell the story of one of the few people in tech history bigger than the creator of Facebook: Apple co-founder Steve Jobs.

Sorkin and Rudin have been attached to this project for some time now, but Fincher’s potential involvement (via The Hollywood Reporter) is the first thing that makes it sound like a real thing. Based on Walter Isaacson’s acclaimed and meticulously researched biography, this take on the life of the man behind everything from the Apple computer and the iPhone looks to be the prestigious answer to Ashton Kutcher’s ‘Jobs,’ which came and instantly went last year. While that film followed a traditional biopic formula, Sorkin (who took home an Academy Award for his ‘The Social Network’ script) wrote a script that transpires in real time over three product launches.

Of course, THR is clear that these are still early talks and that Fincher (who doesn’t take on projects often or lightly) is still not 100% on board. Still, it’s easy to cross your fingers and hope he says yes. Whether you care about Jobs or Apple, the thought of Fincher, Sorkin and Rudin collaborating again should make any real movie fan happy. ‘The Social Network’ remains a great movie and a Steve Jobs movie sounds like the perfect spiritual follow-up.

Meanwhile, David Fincher is in post-production on his adaptation on Gillian Flynn’s ‘Gone Girl’ and is developing the HBO pilot ‘Utopia.’ Even with a plate that full, we hope he finds the time for this one.
