December is ‘Bingo’ month. The game made its debut in December of 1921 and has been a popular game ever since. The original name was ‘Beano’ until toy salesman, Edwin S. Lowe, heard an excited winner yell out ‘bingo’ when they won a game at a carnival.

Lowe produced the first commercial version of the Bingo game and sold it for $1. Lowe hired a mathematician; he wanted him to come with 6,000 different bingo cards to increase the number combinations on the cards. The mathematician succeeded, but later in life he went crazy trying to figure out the combinations manually. Today a computer could have figured it out, but back then it was all done with pencil and paper.
