Destination Maine: 33rd Annual Moxie Festival This Weekend In Lisbon

It’s a tradition in Maine and it’s certainly an acquired taste, I am talking about Moxie. It’s a soft drink that will bring strong reactions from people who have tried it. It was created in 1876 by Dr. Augustin Thompson in Lowell, Massachusetts. It was originally marketed as a panacea that would cure paralysis, nervousness and insomnia.The town of Lisbon Falls, in Central Maine, celebrates everything Moxie with the annual Moxie Festival.

This year’s festival is from July 10th through July 12th. Here just a sample of what will be going on.

There will be fireworks Friday night.

Saturday will feature the Moxie Day 5K Race, The Moxie Day Parade, The Chug-n-Challenge, The Moxie Car Show and The Moxie Family Fun Day at Beaver Park.
